Sun Peaks in a nutshell
Sun Peaks sits about 55 km northeast of Kamloops. Its 4,400 acres on Tod, Sundance and Morrisey mountains make it the second-largest ski area in Canada, and it is known for sunshine and long, rolling intermediate runs.
How it compares with SilverStar
- Size: Sun Peaks is larger on paper; SilverStar packs its steepest terrain into the Putnam Creek side.
- Running the town: Sun Peaks is its own municipality, with a mayor and council since 2010. SilverStar is governed by the Regional District of North Okanagan.
- Nordic: Sun Peaks grooms about 37 km of cross-country trails; SilverStar and Sovereign Lake groom more than 105 km.
- Getting there: Kamloops airport and city serve Sun Peaks; Vernon and Kelowna serve SilverStar.
- Common ground: both are on the Ikon Pass, both are inside the federal foreign-buyer ban areas, and both exempt short-term rentals from the principal-residence rule with registration required.
Foreign-buyer and rental information per BCREA and the Association of Interior REALTORS® (2026). The federal ban on non-Canadian buyers currently runs to January 1, 2027. Rules change; confirm with a lawyer and the Province of B.C. before you buy. Pass partners and opening dates change every season.
