Is SilverStar good for families?
Yes. SilverStar’s village is compact, car-free and ski-in/ski-out, so kids can walk from the condo to lessons. Children 5 and under ski free, group lessons start at age 3, and an alpine day ticket also covers Tube Town, skating on 2.5-acre Brewer’s Pond, snowshoe, fat-bike and Nordic trails. The resort was voted Best for Beginners in the HWK Ski Awards.

Why families pick SilverStar
- A village you can walk. The whole village sits at 1,609 m with the lifts in the middle. There are 13 restaurants, cafés and bars and 9 hotels and lodges on the mountain.
- Little ones ski free. Kids 5 and under get a free ticket at the village ticket office, in winter and for summer biking.
- Lessons from age 3. Group ski lessons run ages 3 to 13 and snowboard 7 to 13, with season programs for ages 3 to 17. Lessons meet at the Adventure Centre, a nut-free building beside the drop-off zone.
- More than skiing on one ticket. A full-day alpine ticket includes Tube Town, Brewer’s Pond skating, and the snowshoe, fat-bike and Nordic trails.
- Close to town. Vernon’s hospital, schools and grocery stores are 20 minutes down the hill.
Things to do off the slopes
- Tube Town: a tube lift (no hiking back up), minimum age 3; kids under 42″ ride with an adult. There is a mini snowmobile track for kids beside it.
- Brewer’s Pond: a 2.5-acre natural outdoor rink with a fire and music; skate rentals at Brewer’s Base.
- Night skiing: Friday and Saturday to 8:30 p.m. on 4 km of lit beginner and intermediate trails.
- Summer: the gondola, the Gnome Roam and a scavenger hunt. See SilverStar in summer.
Family-friendly runs
The resort names Peanut Trail and Challenger as family favourites. Beginners start in the Silver Queen area and the Discovery Zone. See the best beginner runs.
Buying a family place
Families usually want three bedrooms or a bunk room, ski storage and a short walk to Silver Queen or the village. Firelight Lodge sits beside Brewer’s Pond, Silver Queen and Tube Town; townhomes in Silver Views and Pinnacles Peaks give more room. Compare areas on the village areas page or take the area quiz.
